Common AC Problems That Make It Blow Hot Air

It does you no good if your car’s air conditioner is blowing hot air in the summer. Before the weather gets too hot, let SpringMasters Auto Repair inspect your vehicle’s air conditioning system to make sure that you won’t have any problems with it once you turn it on. There are common AC problems that will make hot air blow through the vents instead of cold air. Here is a list of what they are.

Clogged Condenser

The condenser drew the shortest straw when it came to engine positioning. This air conditioning part is right behind your vehicle’s grille where it gets pelted constantly by road debris. This road debris can damage the condenser and prevent it from working. More often than not, however, the condenser ends up clogged by dirt and debris. Once it is clogged, it cannot function and your air conditioner will blow hot air.

Electrical Issues

Electrical issues are also common in vehicle air conditioning systems. It could be that you have a blown fuse, there’s a problem with the wiring, there’s a problem with the relays, or the electrical system is causing the fans to malfunction. We can run a diagnostic check on the electrical system to see if it returns any errors. If it does, the error code will point us to the exact electrical issue your vehicle’s air conditioning system has.

Low Refrigerant

Refrigerant can leak out of the hose connections when it is in its liquid form. Your vehicle’s air conditioning refrigerant actually comes in two forms. First, it is a gas that is compressed (second) into a liquid. Leaking out of the hose connections is one way your refrigerant levels can get too low. The other way is through natural evaporation. If it has been a long time since you’ve had your air conditioner serviced, it’s possible the hot air is being caused by a low refrigerant level.

Malfunctioning Compressor

Finally, the compressor is an air conditioning system part that can malfunction if it isn’t used enough. You may not have turned on your vehicle’s air conditioner since last summer. The first time you turn it on this summer, it may not work because the compressor is malfunctioning. We can test the compressor to make sure it’s working properly. If it isn’t, we can replace it.
